4 types of cruises to avoid

One can try to plan a vacation and check multiple cruise voyages. The choices differ based on the days one is willing to spend, the distance, the destination, and the volume of the cruise. One should also select the cruise based on one’s experience of being on a ship for long periods, tolerance of potential challenges, and any general hiccups. However, one must also avoid certain cruises for a fulfilling traveling experience.

Inaugural cruises
Most people are drawn to newly introduced cruises, which often come with the best offers. However, when it comes to brand-new ships, it could also mean that the vessel might have some issues that the crew has yet to identify and iron out. With a new ship, the crew members need to put in extra effort to understand the workings of the cruise. Inaugural cruises might mean that the ship hasn’t been tested over the same travel distance and with the same volume of people on board as it will face during a scheduled sail. Since the process is still under development, it could mean that the ship is vulnerable to numerous challenges.

Very short cruises
If someone is considering going on a cruise for the first time, they may prefer to take a shorter one as a trial run. If they don’t enjoy it, this can save them from committing to longer trips. A 2-3 day cruise may seem like a good idea, but it’s not enough time for first-time cruisers to truly experience a cruise vacation. However, short cruises, especially those scheduled over the weekends, tend to attract a lot of crowds and parties. This is mainly because the fares are considerably cheaper than other cruises, and people don’t need to take prolonged time off from work.

Cruises out of dry dock
Some experts suggest avoiding bookings for the initial few sails after a ship has undergone new upgrades. The ships must go into dry dock for weeks or months at a stretch to be operational. The dry dock is where it undergoes maintenance sessions and upgrades. This helps cruise lines add some buzz for when the ship is ready to set back on sail. However, the problem with the initial bookings is that they can easily be canceled if the work ever overruns. Regardless of how great cruise lines have gotten at predicting the maintenance time required, there is no way to know until the ship is opened and thoroughly inspected.

Themed cruises
Multiple companies and organizations currently book cruises as a medium for important meetings and productive time away from their teams. During these cruises, the organizers may need to rope off certain sections of the ship to be used by the companies for meetings and group activities. Other passengers on the cruise may have limited or no access to these areas or the different activities taking place. Additionally, some cruise lines may cut back on the usual perks provided, which can increase the expenses for individuals traveling alone, with friends, or with family.

Heartburn is an unpleasant, burning sensation in the chest that is more common than a lot of individuals realize. Pregnant women, older men, and even young adults experience it frequently. Despite it being such a prevalent experience, not many know that heartburn has actually nothing to do with the heart and everything to do with the stomach and the esophagus. Unsurprisingly enough, heartburn is also used interchangeably with GERD. But, before we get to deciphering heartburn and GERD, let’s understand what acid reflux is. What is acid reflux or GER? Acid reflux occurs when the lower esophageal sphincter or LES becomes weak, allowing the contents of the stomach to travel in the wrong direction, back up the esophagus. Acid reflux is also called GER or gastroesophageal reflux as it involves the stomach and esophagus. This condition can usually be resolved with over-the-counter medication. What is heartburn? Heartburn is a burning or painful sensation that is experienced in the chest. Since the lining of the esophagus is not as strong as the lining of the stomach, the acid from the stomach can cause a burning sensation in the chest. This pain or burning sensation that is heartburn can often be misconstrued for a heart attack.

5 common joint conditions and how to treat them

A joint or articulation is made from two bones that aid the body in movement. There are many forms of joint conditions, which, in many cases, arise from the wear and tear of bones. Arthritis is one of the major and most common health conditions in the country, and its intensity increases with age. Here are some common types of joint conditions that you need to know: Osteoarthritis With almost 10 percent of men and 13 percent of women aged over 60 suffering from osteoarthritis, it is one of the most prevalent joint conditions in the country. Osteoarthritis occurs due to the wear and tear of the cartilages that protect the ends of bones. It commonly affects joints of the spine, hands, hips, and knees. If left untreated, this wear and tear of the cartilage soon leads to bone degeneration, thereby affecting flexibility and range of movement. Treatment for osteoarthritis depends on its severity and the patient’s age. Mild symptoms can be treated through medications, physiotherapy, and changes in lifestyle, whereas moderate to severe cases may require surgical intervention. Spondyloarthritis Spondyloarthritis, also referred to as spondyloarthropathy, is a type of rheumatic disease that causes inflammation in various joints. There are two types of spondyloarthritis—axial spondyloarthritis, which causes inflammation of the joints in the chest, spine, and hip bone, and peripheral spondyloarthritis, which causes inflammation in the fingers, knees, and toes.
